Most of my working year is spent overseas shooting documentaries. Over the past 25 years, I’ve filmed in around 90 countries — many of them more than once.
My work’s taken me to deserts, the Arctic, jungles, glaciers, conflict zones, mountains, slums, and palaces. From what I’ve seen, the people with the least to give often give the most. Time and again, I’ve been amazed by the kindness and generosity of strangers.
I’ve shot the last four of Sir Michael Palin’s travel documentaries. Like a lot of us, I watched Around the World in 80 Days as a teenager — so being part of his team is something pretty special. Being on the road with a Python is often surreal and always a lot of fun.
We’ve travelled thousands of miles through North Korea, Iraq, Nigeria, and — earlier this year — Venezuela. That series will be broadcast on Paramount+ and Channel 5 in September 2025. I got a BAFTA nomination for my camerawork on the North Korea series in 2019.
In 2024, I shot a feature documentary about the British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. Directed by Malcolm Granville, Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast for Universal Music is due out in cinemas this autumn.
For the past five years, I’ve been one of the main DoPs on Drive to Survive, the Netflix documentary series about Formula 1. It won Emmys in 2022 and 2023.
I’ve also just wrapped my third series with Eva Longoria. After filming Searching for Mexico and Searching for Spain, we’ve just finished shooting Searching for France. I joined the team after filming the first four episodes of Stanley Tucci’s Searching for Italy back in 2019 — that series won an Emmy in 2020.
I shoot with a Sony VENICE — it’s beating heart is a beautiful full-frame sensor inside a tough, reliable shell. It’s responsible for some of the best films and dramas in the last decade.
London’s my home, and probably always will be. I have two children — Lela, who’s 17, and Elio, who’s 11.
